Project Summary

Habitat island is a reformed area along Southeast False Creek and has been re-naturalized to create an ideal home for many animals and sea creatures! The intertidal channel contains many different layers of rock like gravel, cobble, sand, etc. which act as numerous layers of protection from waves and hence sea level rise as well. The 200 native trees and flowers growing naturally in this region act as another layer of defence against rising sea levels. This island now is home to a wide range of restored ecosystems benefitting both the natural environment and every creature that depends on it (humans included!). Since this is a natural oasis, when visiting the island remember to not cycle, litter or bring pets on the island, as it can disturb the ecosystem being built and cause adverse anthropogenic behaviours.
