Kickstand Community Bike Shop
A sustainable bike shop that aligns with the concepts of environmental justice and promotes sustainable modes of transport to an inclusive community
Kickstand is a volunteer-run, non-profit community bike shop in East Vancouver that helps people learn how to repair and maintain their own bicycles. They provide affordable access to tools, parts, and bike repair education, empowering individuals to fix and build bikes themselves. They also refurbish donated bikes for resale, keeping bikes out of the landfill and promoting reuse over consumption. They encourage cycling, promote low-carbon active transportation. They also support the circular economy, and create inclusive, accessible spaces for all, fostering community resilience and social sustainability. Their work helps shift the narrative from a fossil fuel focused mode of transport to more sustainable forms, focusing on health, equity, and self-reliant urban environment.
